Play at Your Own Risk

The kids and I went to the playground behind Cooper Elementary School. Below are pictures of some of the different signs we saw around the playground and back of the school.

Sign reads: PARENTAL OR GUARDIAN SUPERVISION IS REQUIRED FOR THE USE OF THIS PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT. PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK

Sign reads: NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, NO GLASS CONTAINERS, NO ANIMALS, NO VEHICLES, NO GOLF, NO NO DOGS PERMITTED ON PROPERTY BY ORDER OF BOARD OF EDUCATION

Not only are animals forbidden, but dogs are explicitly forbidden and received an extra NO.   Perhaps the Board of Education does not want to scoop poop from the field.

Top sign reads: USE OF MINI BIKES PROHIBITED ON BOARD OF ED PROPERTY
Bottom sign reads: NO PERSONS PERMITTED ON SCHOOL GROUNDS FROM DUSK TO DAWN EXCEPT TO USE LIGHTED RECREATIONAL FACILITIES

Why the need to specifically forbid mini bikes? Did the Board of Ed have problems with a mini bike gang staking out the school parking lot? I imagine Ed of the “Board of Ed” as a middle-aged, balding man with few friends and poor posture.

Based on the bottom sign, people are discouraged from ever using the school grounds. The caveat “dusk to dawn” is stated in a much smaller print that could be overlooked.

Sign reads: 8 THIS BUILDING IS SCHOOL DISTRICT PROPERTY AND IS SUBJECT TO SURVEILLANCE. ALL VISITORS MUST REGISTER AT THE MAIN ENTRANCE OR MAIN OFFICE. NO TRESPASSING, LOITERING, LITTERING, VANDALISM, SMOKING, WEAPONS, POSSESSION OF ILLEGAL OR CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES. PROMPTLY REPORT ANY UNLAWFUL OR SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY TO THE POLICE.

This sign forgets to state “NO NO DOGS” and “MINI BIKES PROHIBITED”

Sign Reads: Max Play Systems. Help Us Make Fun Safe. Playground designed for ages 5 to 12 years. Always use playground safely. Adult supervision is recommended. Please Report any problems. [repeated in French and Spanish]

This sign is on the playground equipment.  Instead of a list of forbidden actions, it instead gives a few simple guidelines. The Board of Ed could take some lessons from it.
