In the Background

I have exactly three pictures of my great-uncle George.  This is one of them.  Behind his left shoulder, a man stands in the window, eyes bugged out, eyebrows raised, cup in hand, and tongue sticking out.  I don’t know who the man is and anyone that may have known is probably dead.  Was he a random person inadvertently caught on film?  Was he intentionally clowning to the camera?

Especially at tourist spots, I’ve walked into the frame of a stranger’s camera.  My image is probably in the background of photos from someone’s beach trip or visit to the Grand Canyon.  It is interesting to consider that my image persists in places that I will never know.

As an aside, for a tongue in cheek explanation of bunny ears, visit this link.
