Kimchi and Turkey

We were Thanksgiving guests of my fabulous sister-in-law, Paula. Total attendance: 12 (my in-laws, her in-laws, spouses, her 2 kids, and my 2 kids).

Her eldest son and Laura are 6 months apart and love to play together (most of the time). They spent the day running from the living room, through the dining room, into the kitchen, back to the living room, upstairs, and again downstairs. Her 20 month old attempted to keep up with the big kids. He face-planted twice, but doggedly persisted. The energy and noise level was high and generally happy.

The grownups were more sedate. Much of my time was spent caring for Jason and occasionally refereeing the kids. A missed nap made Jason clingy, and the environment was too stimulating for him to want to sleep more. The grandparents talked together in Korean, while Paula and her husband worked to get dinner on the table. Jung helped on the kid and dinner front as needed.

As a child, I don’t remember holidays being so much work. I was glad to be a guest this year.

I noticed on your about page that you lived in Korea for a while. Are you able to get good kimchi and other Korean food where you live now?
