Baby Watermelon Promises

Laura asked to buy the watermelon seeds in the spring at the same time that we purchased our tomato plants. Late last year, a willow tree, heavily damaged in the October snowstorm, had to be removed and the stump ground down. This left a sunny, bare patch of dirt in the side yard, the perfect spot to mound up the soil and plant Laura’s seeds. The first gardening miracle is that the seeds came up and the vines have flourished. The second gardening miracle is that among the weeds and vines, we found a softball sized, baby watermelon.

Now we are waiting for the baby watermelon to grow big and sweet. Laura is holding her breath in anticipation.

    I loved both pics!

Thanks, Nancy. I can’t help slipping in pictures of my kids, even on a post about a watermelon.

This is your record of their lives. You should post as many of their pics as you can! You’ll be glad later that you did. If too many outsiders start reading it, take it private and hand out a password to the family. But enjoy their lives and taking pictures to remember them.

  2. You have grown PERFECTION. And I mean that all around. Fruit, kids…you know.

    Wonderful – all of it!

I enjoy seeing the wonder of the world through and with my kids. Without Laura’s prodding, I would not have planted watermelon seeds.

  4. Such a handsome watermelon! A healthy shape and gloss, very nice Beth.
